Thank you for joining us on this journey to construct a Marriage Mission Statement (MMS). If this is the first blog you have read about this subject, please visit our website or Facebook page and begin at Part 1 to help you correctly start your MMS.

The acronym GUIDE stands for G-God, U-Us/Teamwork, I-Intimacy, D-Dreams, and E-Empathy/Encouragement. We will explore these more in-depth over the next few weeks.

Today, we are exploring the letter D for Dreams in the word GUIDE.

It's good to dream. It's great to dream big! What dreams have come true for you? Sometimes, it feels like we are so busy working we don't take the time to dream or visualize how to make our dreams a reality. Dreams are aspirations and deep desires of our hearts that we hope will happen for us. Some dreams are grandiose and have high price tags, while others are simple and attainable. What are your dreams? What steps can you take today to get you closer to fulfilling your dreams?

Have you ever thought about the thrill of your and your spouse's dreams coming together and what that would look like?

Bringing two dreams together takes time, thought, patience, and creativity, but it is possible and fulfilling! We encourage you to pray and work together to achieve your dreams. Partnering together to fulfill each other's dreams promotes passion and growth in your marriage relationship. God has a purpose for your marriage, and working to fulfill that purpose will produce healthy and fruitful results.

Here are some questions to help you and your spouse as you dream together.

  • What does your relationship dream look like?

  • What does your ministry dream look like?

  • What does your financial dream look like?

  • What do your travel dreams look like?

Example: We work to support each other's dreams to help them become a reality. We work on continuously improving our marriage by attending coaching sessions, marriage conferences, and classes and reading marriage books together. We work together to help people experiencing homelessness. We set healthy boundaries to keep us focused. We set financial goals and keep each other accountable to stick with our goals. We work together to achieve our travel dreams to visit Europe and Africa. We keep ourselves updated on travel information.

The above are only examples. Please write your statements as you would want them to be in your MMS. Sometimes, it is helpful to have each person write their section and then blend your statements together.

Next week, we will explore the final letter E in the acronym GUIDE.

If you have found this helpful, please share it with others.
