Thank you for joining us on this journey to construct a Marriage Mission Statement (MMS). If this is the first blog you have read about this subject, please visit our website or Facebook page and begin at Part 1 to help you correctly start your MMS.
We are using a framework that is based on the acronym GUIDE. The acronym GUIDE stands for G-God, U-Us/Teamwork, I-Intimacy, D-Dreams, and E-Empathy/Encouragement. We will explore these more in-depth over the next few weeks.
When constructing your marriage mission statement (MMS), consider the letter U in the word GUIDE; it represents us, unity, togetherness, or teamwork. What do you enjoy doing together? How can the two of you work together on the mission God has for your marriage? When you schedule your time with togetherness in mind, great things will happen!
Amos 3:3 says, “How can two walk together, except they be agreed” (KJV). There is success, unity, and a purposeful outcome when a married couple works together. God has given every individual a plan and a purpose that he wants them to fulfill in life. When you say, ”I Do” on your wedding day, you are agreeing to come alongside your spouse to partner with them in the plan God has for your marriage. One of the definitions of marriage is to “blend.” How can you blend or complement each other in carrying out God’s life goal for you?
Work with your spouse to develop 3-5 sentences defining who you are or want to walk into being in this category. Set aside some time to work on it this week.
The following are additional questions to help you process your thoughts about this section.
What are we passionate about?
What group of people do we want to help?
What issues in society upset us?
What problem have you solved together?
Where have we experienced tremendous pain?
What experiences do we have that we can share with others to help them?
The following is an example of the U section:
We work as a team to help underprivileged children to have proper clothing and nutrition. We use our resources and time to partner with organizations that support underprivileged children. We will look for opportunities to share the gospel with children in need.
Use this as a template to assist you in creating this section of your mission statement.
Next week, we will explore the letter I in the acronym GUIDE.
If you have found this helpful, please share it with others.
